I am so pleased to see the retail and hospitality sector coming back to life following the re-opening of some of our local high street shops, cafes, restaurants, beauty salons and leisure facilities last month.
To support businesses across the constituency build back safely and successfully, our local councils have received additional funding as part of the Welcome Back Fund - Chelmsford City Council has been allocated over £159,000 and Uttlesford District Council over £80,000.
This is part of the Government’s unprecedented support for those who have been impacted by the pandemic, across the constituency which has included £50 million in Business Support Grants, over 3,600 benefitting from Self-Employed Income Support Scheme, over 5,000 residents supported by the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, over £3 million in the Local Restrictions Support grant amongst a number of other allocations of funding.
As our local vaccination programme continues at pace and I have been in regular correspondence with health care leaders so I am updated on the progress and can share their feedback and experiences with ministerial colleagues. I am so grateful to everyone across the constituency involved in the efforts to get us all vaccinated, the continued praise they are receiving from local residents, the Health Minister and our regional NHS leaders is a testament to their hard work.
With restrictions easing it has been great to get out and about across the constituency again. I met with Cllr Mike Steel recently to talk through the proposed Average Speed Camera (ASC) project in Ford End. We discussed why there needs to be an ASC through Ford End and how it would work. I am very supportive of this project that the Parish Council, Cllr Steel and local residents are working hard to make happen and will be assisting where I can.
