Kemi Badenoch, the Member of Parliament for Saffron Walden has welcomed the announcement that iconic cultural and heritage organisations across the constituency will receive over £370,000 to support them as they reopen and recover from the pandemic.
Confirmed allocations within the constituency include:
- £6,970 for Saffron Walden Community Cinema (Saffron Screen)
- £35,220 for the Fairycroft House
- £88,000 for GHB Hire Limited, a festival and event production hire company based in the constituency
- £232,000 for Showstars - a production company specialising in supplying skilled and semi-skilled crew for live events.
This comes on top of previous financial support for other organisations in the constituency and is part of the £400 million in grants and loans being delivered to over 2,700 organisations across England.
Nearly all of the original £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund has now been allocated, with the Chancellor announcing a further £300 million boost for the Fund at last month’s Budget, taking direct government investment in the sector since the start of the pandemic to almost £2 billion.
This Government is committed to protecting our most treasured arts and cultural institutions – organisations that are irreplaceable parts of our heritage and communities – ensuring they can survive in the short-term and thrive in the future.
Commenting, Mrs Badenoch said:
“The past year has had a devastating impact on cultural and heritage organisations throughout the constituency, so I am really pleased that another £370,000 is being provided to support local organisations in the production industry, an independent cinema and arts centre.
“The fund has already helped sites like Audley End House outside Saffron Walden and Hylands Park in Chelmsford and these additional allocations are helping more in the sector locally survive and thrive as we start to reopen.”
