Kemi Badenoch has served as the MP for North West Essex since 2017, having been re-elected in July 2024. She has also served as Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Conservative Party since November 2024
Kemi was previously Secretary of State for Business and Trade, President of the Board of Trade and Minister for Women and Equalities.
She has previously held roles as Minister for Local Government, Faith and Communities at the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Minister for Equalities, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Education.
Kemi is a former Vice-Chair of the Conservative Party and former member of the Justice Select Committee. Prior to her election as a Member of Parliament, she was a Conservative member of the London Assembly, acting as the GLA Conservative’s spokesperson for the economy.
Her other areas of interest include engineering and technology, social mobility and integration. She provides regular mentoring to women who wish to pursue careers in technology.
Kemi has supported hundreds of people across the North West Essex constituency with a wide range of individual issues, community and national concerns. She works closely with the local councils, schools, businesses, community groups and many more to represent the interests of her constituents and their communities.
