I had numerous engagements in Thaxted today, starting with a meeting with Michael Culkin who heads The Thaxted Society. We discussed a number of issues which I know are important to rural communities such as planning, infrastructure and what we need to do to make sure that the heritage of Thaxted is conserved when new developments are proposed.
Whenever I get the opportunity, I visit local schools to get their perspective on what is happening with families and children in the area and learn about their successes and challenges. I had a good tour of Thaxted Primary school after my meeting and had a very productive conversation with headteacher Michelle Hughes. I was very impressed with how she and her leadership are running the school and I know many parents feel very lucky to have Thaxted Primary in the village. Thank you to the House Captains who showed me around and who asked me such insightful questions about my role as an MP.
Finally, I held my surgery at Thaxted Guildhall where I picked up a number of issues from constituents including about potential library closures. If you need an appointment to see me please email [email protected] or call 020 7219 1943.
