It was a pleasure to visit Broomfield Hospital recently to meet with the senior leadership team, see the fantastic facilities and speak with staff about their experiences. It was incredibly insightful to see the Burns and Frailty Units at work, both of which are home to world-leading staff and equipment, and discuss the challenges posed by stigma with the specialist Dementia team. 43% of people that die from dementia aren’t even diagnosed with it – this is unacceptable. The level of help and support available to dementia sufferers is greater than it has ever been, but unless we stop disregarding symptoms of dementia and putting them down to ‘old age’, that number will remain stubbornly high.
