My tour of local schools continued last week with a visit to Felsted. I spoke with sixth form students on topics ranging from politics to free speech, and was given an insight into the challenges facing independent schools like Felsted, and their strengths. After what happened with the Walden School in Saffron Walden, I think it is important to support schools like Felsted who have a long tradition in our community and add to the educational mix. The damaging effect of social media was also discussed. This issue has been raised with me by almost every Headteacher I have spoken to, so I will be investigating what can be done to improve the situation. The mental wellbeing of the next generation cannot be left to chance.
