I am grateful to the nearly 40,000 people who put their trust in me last Thursday. Being your MP is a privilege. I’m not just proud to have won your vote, but to have increased the majority to 27,500. As a relatively new MP, this was a huge vote of confidence. However you voted, I’ll be working hard for you all over the next 5 years.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all my supporters for the time they gave to help canvass, deliver leaflets and put up posters. Knowing that I just had a baby, so many people wrote in offering to help. It was humbling to know the level of support I had for my work across the constituency and I could not have achieved such a good result without them.
I campaigned across the 300 square miles of the constituency, from Chesterford to Chelmsford and the overwhelming message was that Parliament needed to get Brexit done, so we can focus on domestic issues. There of course are still some people unhappy with the referendum result, but it was remarkable how many people who voted remain wanted the result respected.
My campaign priorities were keeping our communities safe, increasing school funding and ensuring we have a health service we can be proud of, and I will continue to work on these issues.
The next few years promise to be very exciting and I know that Boris Johnson can bring the country together as we move forward after the difficulties of the last 3 years.
