Kemi Badenoch, the MP for Saffron Walden, has called for a quick resolution for residents following a decision by the High Court not to grant an injunction against the Highwood Road traveller site.
The judge decided instead that the travellers could remain in place during their appeal which could last up to 12 months.
Mrs Badenoch said: “This decision by the High Court will come as a massive blow to all the constituents that have written to me about the site on Highwood Road.
“I supported Chelmsford Council’s decision to seek this injunction as it would have meant the removal of the travellers, caravans and all associated possessions.
“One positive is that they will have to leave within one month if their appeal is refused. However, I do not think it is fair to residents for this appeal to take an unduly long time.
“I have written to the Planning Inspectorate to request an appeal date be set for the earliest possible opportunity so there can be a swift resolution for those that have to live nearby.”
