Kemi Badenoch, the MP for the Saffron Walden constituency visited the Stansted Youth Centre recently alongside district and county councillor Ray Gooding, to talk to the team about the work they are doing for young people locally.
Essex Youth Service supports and enables voluntary sector and community partners to run youth sessions from the youth centre in Stansted. They run a range of targeted provisions such as young carers respite groups, mental health support and open access youth sessions.
Over the summer the Youth Service worked with young asylum seekers and young people from the community to provide them with a wide range of activities such as self-defence, aerosol art, introduction to the Duke of Edinburgh Award and how to cook healthy meals.
Commenting, Mrs Badenoch said:
“I am grateful to Julie Anger, Youth Services Manager and the team working out of Stansted Youth Centre for showing me the activities and programmes that take place.
“Youth services and trained youth workers can have a transformational impact, especially for young people facing multiple barriers or disadvantage, helping to foster a sense of community for them.
“It is important that all young people are given the opportunity to develop skills, networks and resilience and I’d like to thank the team at Stansted for their hard work and dedication to support them.”

“We are delighted that Kemi could spare some time in her busy schedule to visit the new youth facility in Stansted. The young people prepared a meal and enjoyed the conversations with Kemi, the youth workers and community partners. Kemi showed great interest in learning about the local provisions available to young people.”
