With great regret, I resigned from the government this morning. It has been an honour being Equalities and Local Government minister. It was a privilege to have worked with so many great ministerial colleagues and civil servants in these roles.
Over the last few months, many constituents indicated their support for the Prime Minister and this Government despite some disappointments, wanting a focus on bread and butter issues like the cost of living and energy prices.
My inbox is often very different and more representative of our constituency than Facebook or Twitter would have you believe.
However, in my view the recent allegations which have come to light have significantly shifted the dial. My inbox shows that many of you who were previously supportive also agree.
Alongside my colleagues, in good faith and for the good of the country, I have asked the Prime Minister to step aside.
I look forward to continuing to work hard and serve my constituents across Chelmsford and Uttlesford.
