Kemi Badenoch MP was joined by local councillors Mike Steel and James Raven to discuss the Government’s School Rebuilding Programme. Great Leighs Primary was one of seven schools in the Saffron Walden constituency affected by reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) that is now included in the Government’s School Rebuilding Programme.
The programme carries out major rebuilding and refurbishment projects.
Mrs Badenoch and Mr Garlick also discussed SEND provision, the increase in Education, Health and Care plans (EHCPs) and some of the measures the school has introduced to support those with SEN.
The school council had the opportunity to ask Mrs Badenoch about life as an MP in Parliament as well as share some of the initiatives they have been working on, including more healthy options on their school menu.
Commenting, Mrs Badenoch said:
“It was great to visit Great Leigh’s Primary to discuss the school being added to the Government’s School Rebuilding Programme.
“We also discussed areas of concern around SEN funding. The Government recently announced an additional £19 million for Essex County Council to create new places for children with SEND.
“I will be sharing feedback with ministerial colleagues and would like to thank Headteacher Mr Garlick and all the staff and pupils for having me.”
