Kemi Badenoch, MP for the Saffron Walden constituency which includes Chelmsford villages and Uttlesford, recently visited the Falcon Bowling Club in Broomfield, alongside local Cllr Mike Steel.
The Falcon Club was hosting The British Isles Indoor Bowling Championships and International series – a major bowling tournament.
Falcon Bowling Club was founded in 1908 and has been in its present site in Chelmsford since 2002. The Club Coaching Team’s enthusiasm and expertise has been recognised at National Level and the Club have been awarded the status of “National Centre of Excellence” by the National Governing Bowling Bodies.
During the visit Mrs Badenoch and Club Secretary Debbie Farrow discussed the role that the bowling club plays in the wider community – working with local schools, through the Chelmsford School Partnership initiative. The Junior Academy links into this activity and provides bowling facilities and coaching for local youngsters at no financial cost, throughout the year.
The club is open to new members, of any age and ability, with taster sessions and beginner courses. Those interested can learn more here: https://www.falconbowlingclub.co.uk/about-us/join-us.
Commenting, Mrs Badenoch said:
“Congratulations again to the Falcon Bowling club on hosting the tournament, it was an excellent afternoon and great to see local schools involved.
“Last time I visited the club I promised that I would have a go, so I did test out my bowling skills – safe to say I would need a few more sessions…
“I also had the pleasure of meeting some of the Ladies England team, which was fitting as we marked International Women’s Day.
“Thank you to Chairman Greg Moss and Club Secretary Debbie Farrow for having me – the club is an asset to the community and wider Chelmsford area. I look forward to visiting again.”
Commenting, Chairman Greg Moss said:
“Falcon Bowling Club were honoured to receive a visit from Kemi. As well as watching the bowlers who were representing their respective countries, during the recess a special event was organised with local school children who participated in a programme on the green designed to encourage young people and other age groups to try the sport.
“To everyone’s delight Kemi removed her shoes and she was soon actively involved in the programme with all the other participants. Who knows, maybe we will soon have a new member joining the Club!
“The tournament itself was a great success, not only regarding the bowling but in a commercial sense, bringing considerable business into the City of Chelmsford during the eight days the event lasted when over four thousand spectators attended the event.”
