Recently, Mrs. Badenoch visited Passivhaus, an Eco-house in Felsted, near Dunmow. Kemi learnt about the style of building and was particularly interested in the level of energy efficiency achieved in the design.
Homes in the UK currently account for 15% of carbon emissions. Creating more energy efficient homes is crucial if the UK is to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Homes such as those by Passivhaus help reduce the amount of emissions generated at home.
Since 2013, the Government have supported energy efficiency improvements to over 2 million homes, and in April 2018 introduced regulations setting minimum energy efficiency standards for privately rented homes. The Government has committed to extend support for energy efficiency out to 2028, driving more than £6 billion of investment in domestic energy efficiency over the next ten years.
