I visited Little hallingbury C of E primary school last week where I spoke to year 5 and 6 students, as well as members of the school council, about politics and the work of an MP before taking questions.
I was quizzed on everything from how laws were made to topics such as climate change and mental health. The questions were very insightful and I was glad I could answer them by letting them know everything the Government was doing to tackle these important issues.
During the visit, I also met with headteacher Sonia Strickland and the Chair of Governors Susannah Dutton. It was a useful opportunity to discuss the school’s successes and challenges. In particular, they made the case that smaller schools like Little Hallingbury provide the same services as larger ones, but this is not factored in to the funding formula.
Funding is a prominent issue at the moment. Undoubtedly progress is being made, as I highlighted in my recent speech in Parliament, but I will continue to lobby Government on this to make sure that schools across our constituency have the resources they need.
I am very pleased with the progress Little Hallingbury school is making and congratulated Mrs Dutton and Mrs Strickland on their work in delivering these improvements
