I boarded the Uttlesford Buffy Bus on Friday to see the playbus service in action. Serving fifteen different communities in Uttlesford, from Saffron Walden to Stansted, the double-decker bus has been converted into a play area for children under 5, complete with toys and learning facilities. The mobile service takes the playcentre to them giving new opportunities to local children, staffed by professional Early Years Workers. Locally-run schemes like this are essential to many families in our rural district, but as an independent charity they rely on donations and Big Lottery funding which expires at the end of the year.
