Kemi Badenoch, the Member of Parliament for Saffron Walden, has been appointed as the new Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury and Minister for Equalities by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
About her new role, Mrs Badenoch said: “It is a privilege to be asked to serve in the prime minister’s government at such a crucial time for our country. My role in the Treasury encompasses a wide range of responsibilities for the UK’s growth and productivity including but not limited to financial policy on regional devolution, transport taxation and energy infrastructure.
“Over the past 3 years I have heard from constituents and met with many local businesses to discuss the need for improved broadband and mobile provision, green infrastructure and the importance of small business policy in the Saffron Walden constituency and beyond, which has helped shape my understanding and the importance of some of this portfolio.
“I look forward to taking on these positions once I have returned from maternity leave.”
