Kemi Badenoch, the Member of Parliament for Saffron Walden, has been appointed as the new Children and Families Minister by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
About her new role, Mrs Badenoch said: “It is a privilege to be asked to serve in the new prime minister’s government. Especially as this role provides so much room to make a difference, whether it be for those from disadvantaged backgrounds, care leavers or parents.
“My understanding of this portfolio has been informed by the many parents of children with high needs who have come to my surgeries over the last two years, numerous school visits in Uttlesford and Chelmsford, local nurseries and early years providers and third sector organisations such as the CVSU and our local Citizens Advice Bureau. I am particularly pleased that our very own Essex County Council is one of the counties rated Outstanding in the country for children’s social care.
“I hope to use some of our local expertise and understanding at the Department of Education and all the organisations that are working to improve the lives of children across the country. Giving children the best start in life is key to making sure they succeed in future.
“I look forward to building on his successes of my predecessor Nadhim Zahawi MP. He once described this job as the best is government, and I am sure he is right.”
