Kemi Badenoch, Member of Parliament for the Saffron Walden constituency, which includes North Chelmsford and Uttlesford, has welcomed £5,455,200 to fix potholes across Essex and improve road standards for drivers.
The Conservative Government are investing £200 million to fix four million potholes across England. This funding builds on the £2.7 billion of highways maintenance funding, already committed between tax years 2022-25.
Commenting, Mrs Badenoch said:
“People across Chelmsford and Uttlesford should be able to drive across the constituency and wider Essex area without fear of damaging their vehicle due to potholes and poor road conditions.
“This additional central Government funding is something I have been calling for and is vital to fixing outstanding potholes and improving poor road conditions across the constituency.
“Essex County Council and our local county councillors have been working hard over the last few months to repair potholes, particularly at this time of year. It is important residents report road or highways issues at www.essexhighways.org/tell-us/road-pavement-and-surface-issues”
Commenting, Cllr Lee Scott Cabinet Member for Highways Maintenance and Sustainable Transport at Essex County Council said:
“Essex County Council are grateful to the Government for this funding. We are putting in an extra £9 million and hiring additional teams to tackle issues from a combination of rain, frost and snow this winter.”
