Kemi Badenoch MP has welcomed the Government’s announcement that more than £20 billion will be invested in building new hospitals, including delivering on the new Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) in Harlow and a new Cancer Research hospital in Cambridge.
The new rolling programme is part of a more sustainable, consistent approach to delivering state-of-the-art new hospitals for staff and patients. It will mean further future investment to upgrade NHS facilities, with details to be agreed periodically to provide greater future certainty and will allow more than 40 new hospitals to be built in the longer term.
The government is on track to deliver the manifesto commitment to build 40 new hospitals in England by 2030. Two hospitals are already complete and five in construction. By the end of next year more than 20 will be underway or complete.
The new PAH high-tech health campus, which Mrs Badenoch has actively supported since becoming the local MP, is backed by hundreds of millions of Government investment, will be constructed using the latest technologies to ensure that residents in Uttlesford have access to one of the best new hospitals in the country.
As part of his statement in the House of Commons, the Secretary of State for Health also confirmed that the new Addenbrooke’s Cancer Research Hospital in Cambridge is ready to proceed with full Government funding. The hospital will transform cancer care for patients across Chelmsford, Uttlesford and the wider East of England – speeding up diagnosis and the way patient care is delivered.
Commenting, Mrs Badenoch said:
“One of my key priorities as part of my plan for our constituency is having a health service we can be proud of. The Princess Alexandra Hospital provides healthcare for many residents in our constituency and alongside MPs in neighbouring constituencies I called for a new hospital as part of the vital infrastructure improvements needed locally.
“I am also pleased that full funding has been confirmed for the new Cancer Research Hospital in Cambridge, a project I have written in support of. I look forward to seeing both project progress.”
Commenting, Health Secretary Steve Barclay said:
“This announcement confirms these schemes will proceed and will be fully funded. By embracing modern methods of construction, we will massively speed up the construction phase.”
